Leucistic Teacher

Leucistic Teacher is a Psilocybe cubensis strain that shares many characteristics with the well-known Golden Teacher but with distinct leucistic features (lack of pigmentation). This strain produces white to pale yellow fruiting bodies that offer above-average potency.

While it can be a bit more challenging to grow compared to Golden Teachers, it’s still manageable for those with cultivation experience, and several flushes of white mushrooms can be produced with proper care. Leucistic Teacher spores are now available through select vendors that can easily be found on Fungi Maps.

What are Leucistic Teacher Mushrooms?

The Leucistic Teacher, also known as Leucistic Golden Teacher, is a leucistic variation of the Golden Teacher, one of the most well-known strains of Psilocybe cubensis. The "Leucistic" part of the name highlights its lack of pigmentation. Unlike albino strains that have a ghostly white appearance, Leucistic Teachers have a slight yellowish hue usually on the center of the cap or the stems. They grow in dense clusters, producing medium-sized caps and slender stems. Legend has it that the Leucistic Teacher emerged as a spontaneous mutation in a batch of Golden Teachers, but it was later stabilized through dedicated breeding efforts by a skilled cultivator.

Origins of Leucistic Teacher

The exact origin or inventor of the Leucistic Golden Teacher strain isn't well-documented, as it likely emerged from the natural genetic variation and selective cultivation practices within the mycological community. What we do know is that they are a genetic mutation of Golden Teacher that results in leucism, giving it a striking lack of pigmentation. All of Golden Teacher's beloved traits are present in this stable strain, along with the stunning leucistic color mutation..

Leucistic Teacher Potency

The potency of Leucistic Teacher mushrooms is hard to determine without precise measurements in the laboratory setting. As there is no available data on this strain we can only rely on anecdotal reports and information about its parent strains.

According to online trip reports, we can assume that the potency of Leucistic Teacher mushrooms is average or in some cases slightly above average when grown in ideal conditions. For instance, Golden Teachers are often considered an average strain in terms of potency. Data from the Psilocybin Cup suggests that the potency of Golden Teachers typically falls within a range of 0.7% to 1.1% total tryptamines, which includes psilocybin, psilocin, and related compounds.

However, there's also an albino variety of Golden Teacher that surpasses these numbers. True Albino Teacher mushrooms are known for their slightly stronger potency compared to the original Golden Teacher strain. Recent tests of four True Albino Teacher samples at the Psilocybin Cup have provided interesting results. The highest potency sample tested had a total tryptamine concentration of 1.11%, with other privately tested samples reaching up to 1.4%.

These results can indicate that, while it is technically a genetic mutation of original Golden Teacher mushrooms, the Leucistic Teacher may actually have higher concentrations of psychoactive alkaloids. Hopefully, we will see some entries in the future Psilocybin Cups that will give us better insights into the potency of this mysterious mushroom strain.

Leucistic Teacher Effects

Psychonauts often report that the effects of Leucistic Teacher mushrooms are more physical, its effects tend to linger for several hours. Many users report a faster onset and more intense psychedelic journey compared to other strains. Mental clarity and introspection are also commonly experienced, along with both open eye and close eye visual hallucination, that can be intriguing.

While some find the journey euphoric and enlightening, others may experience discomfort or anxiety, depending on their mindset and environment. As with all psychedelic experiences, results can vary widely, so it's essential to create a safe and supportive setting before consuming.

How to Grow Leucistic Teacher Mushrooms

Leucistic Teacher is not typically recommended for beginner growers. It requires a bit more experience and knowledge to achieve successful cultivation. The main challenge lies in the scarcity of Leucistic Teacher spores, as many are available only in the form of swabs, making them more difficult to grow.

However, spore syringes are becoming increasingly available, which makes this strain more accessible to intermediate cultivators.

During the incubation phase, Leucistic Teacher thrives at temperatures between 68-82°F (20-28°C). In the fruiting stage, aim to keep the temperature within 73-82°F (23-28°C) for optimal growth.

The easiest cultivation method for Leucistic Teacher is PF-Tek, a simple and effective technique for growing many Psilocybe Cubensis strains.

PF-Tek requires basic supplies, which can be found at most hardware, garden, or pet stores. The process involves inoculating jars filled with substrate using a spore syringe. These jars are left to colonize in a warm, dark space for one to two weeks. Once fully colonized, the cakes are removed and placed in a fruiting chamber.

A fruiting chamber is typically a clear plastic box with holes for ventilation. You can place a heat mat underneath to control the temperature, and use a mister to regulate humidity by spraying the chamber’s walls.

As the cakes fruit, mushrooms will begin to form. Harvest them as they mature, and when the mycelium stops producing and succumbs to mold, discard the cakes and start the process all over again.

Once the mushrooms mature, they can be harvested. Leucistic Teacher’s can be consumed fresh or dried for long-term storage, much like other magic mushroom species.

Final Word

Leucistic Teacher mushrooms offer a unique twist on the classic Golden Teacher strain with their striking leucistic appearance and above-average potency. While they may require a bit more experience to cultivate, intermediate growers can still achieve successful harvests with the right care and patience.
